Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
i3c: Use i3cdev->desc->info instead of calling i3c_device_get_info() to avoid deadlock
A deadlock may happen since the i3c_master_register() acquires &i3cbus->lock twice. See the log below. Use i3cdev->desc->info instead of calling i3c_device_info() to avoid acquiring the lock twice.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
MIPS: cevt-r4k: Don't call get_c0_compare_int if timer irq is installed
This avoids warning:
[ 0.118053] BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at kernel/locking/mutex.c:283
Caused by get_c0_compare_int on secondary CPU.
We also skipped saving IRQ number to struct clock_event_device *cd as it's never used by clockevent core, as per comments it's only meant for "non CPU local devices".(CVE-2024-46832)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
pinmux: Use sequential access to access desc->pinmux data
When two client of the same gpio call pinctrl_select_state() for the same functionality, we are seeing NULL pointer issue while accessing desc->mux_owner.
Let's say two processes A, B executing in pin_request() for the same pin and process A updates the desc->mux_usecount but not yet updated the desc->mux_owner while process B see the desc->mux_usecount which got updated by A path and further executes strcmp and while accessing desc->mux_owner it crashes with NULL pointer.
Serialize the access to mux related setting with a mutex lock.
cpu0 (process A) cpu1(process B)
pinctrl_select_state() { pinctrl_select_state() { pin_request() { pin_request() { ... .... } else { desc->mux_usecount++; desc->mux_usecount && strcmp(desc->mux_owner, owner)) {
if (desc->mux_usecount > 1)
return 0;
desc->mux_owner = owner;
} }(CVE-2024-47141)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net/smc: check smcd_v2_ext_offset when receiving proposal msg
When receiving proposal msg in server, the field smcd_v2_ext_offset in proposal msg is from the remote client and can not be fully trusted. Once the value of smcd_v2_ext_offset exceed the max value, there has the chance to access wrong address, and crash may happen.
This patch checks the value of smcd_v2_ext_offset before using it.(CVE-2024-47408)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
wifi: rtw89: check return value of ieee80211_probereq_get() for RNR
The return value of ieee80211_probereq_get() might be NULL, so check it before using to avoid NULL pointer access.
Addresses-Coverity-ID: 1529805 ("Dereference null return value")(CVE-2024-48873)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net/smc: check v2_ext_offset/eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt when receiving proposal msg
When receiving proposal msg in server, the fields v2_ext_offset/ eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt in proposal msg are from the remote client and can not be fully trusted. Especially the field v2_ext_offset, once exceed the max value, there has the chance to access wrong address, and crash may happen.
This patch checks the fields v2_ext_offset/eid_cnt/ism_gid_cnt before using them.(CVE-2024-49568)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net/smc: check iparea_offset and ipv6_prefixes_cnt when receiving proposal msg
When receiving proposal msg in server, the field iparea_offset and the field ipv6_prefixes_cnt in proposal msg are from the remote client and can not be fully trusted. Especially the field iparea_offset, once exceed the max value, there has the chance to access wrong address, and crash may happen.
This patch checks iparea_offset and ipv6_prefixes_cnt before using them.(CVE-2024-49571)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
spi: mpc52xx: Add cancel_work_sync before module remove
If we remove the module which will call mpc52xx_spi_remove it will free 'ms' through spi_unregister_controller. while the work ms->work will be used. The sequence of operations that may lead to a UAF bug.
Fix it by ensuring that the work is canceled before proceeding with the cleanup in mpc52xx_spi_remove.(CVE-2024-50051)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
igb: Fix potential invalid memory access in igb_init_module()
The pci_register_driver() can fail and when this happened, the dca_notifier needs to be unregistered, otherwise the dca_notifier can be called when igb fails to install, resulting to invalid memory access.(CVE-2024-52332)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/mediatek: Fix potential NULL dereference in mtk_crtc_destroy()
In mtk_crtc_create(), if the call to mbox_request_channel() fails then we set the "mtk_crtc->cmdq_client.chan" pointer to NULL. In that situation, we do not call cmdq_pkt_create().
During the cleanup, we need to check if the "mtk_crtc->cmdq_client.chan" is NULL first before calling cmdq_pkt_destroy(). Calling cmdq_pkt_destroy() is unnecessary if we didn't call cmdq_pkt_create() and it will result in a NULL pointer dereference.(CVE-2024-53056)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm: resolve faulty mmap_region() error path behaviour
The mmap_region() function is somewhat terrifying, with spaghetti-like control flow and numerous means by which issues can arise and incomplete state, memory leaks and other unpleasantness can occur.
A large amount of the complexity arises from trying to handle errors late in the process of mapping a VMA, which forms the basis of recently observed issues with resource leaks and observable inconsistent state.
Taking advantage of previous patches in this series we move a number of checks earlier in the code, simplifying things by moving the core of the logic into a static internal function __mmap_region().
Doing this allows us to perform a number of checks up front before we do any real work, and allows us to unwind the writable unmap check unconditionally as required and to perform a CONFIG_DEBUG_VM_MAPLE_TREE validation unconditionally also.
We move a number of things here:
We preallocate memory for the iterator before we call the file-backed memory hook, allowing us to exit early and avoid having to perform complicated and error-prone close/free logic. We carefully free iterator state on both success and error paths.
The enclosing mmap_region() function handles the mapping_map_writable() logic early. Previously the logic had the mapping_map_writable() at the point of mapping a newly allocated file-backed VMA, and a matching mapping_unmap_writable() on success and error paths.
We now do this unconditionally if this is a file-backed, shared writable mapping. If a driver changes the flags to eliminate VM_MAYWRITE, however doing so does not invalidate the seal check we just performed, and we in any case always decrement the counter in the wrapper.
We perform a debug assert to ensure a driver does not attempt to do the opposite.
We also move arch_validate_flags() up into the mmap_region() function. This is only relevant on arm64 and sparc64, and the check is only meaningful for SPARC with ADI enabled. We explicitly add a warning for this arch if a driver invalidates this check, though the code ought eventually to be fixed to eliminate the need for this.
With all of these measures in place, we no longer need to explicitly close the VMA on error paths, as we place all checks which might fail prior to a call to any driver mmap hook.
This eliminates an entire class of errors, makes the code easier to reason about and more robust.(CVE-2024-53096)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

nilfs2: prevent use of deleted inode
syzbot reported a WARNING in nilfs_rmdir. [1]
Because the inode bitmap is corrupted, an inode with an inode number that should exist as a ".nilfs" file was reassigned by nilfs_mkdir for "file0", causing an inode duplication during execution. And this causes an underflow of i_nlink in rmdir operations.
The inode is used twice by the same task to unmount and remove directories ".nilfs" and "file0", it trigger warning in nilfs_rmdir.

On a detected data race, KCSAN's reporting logic checks if it should filter the report. That list is protected by the report_filterlist_lock non-raw spinlock which may sleep on RT kernels.
Since KCSAN may report data races in any context, convert it to a raw_spinlock.
This requires being careful about when to allocate memory for the filter list itself which can be done via KCSAN's debugfs interface. Concurrent modification of the filter list via debugfs should be rare: the chosen strategy is to optimistically pre-allocate memory before the critical section and discard if unused.(CVE-2024-56610)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
cacheinfo: Allocate memory during CPU hotplug if not done from the primary CPU
Commit
5944ce092b97 ("arch_topology: Build cacheinfo from primary CPU")
adds functionality that architectures can use to optionally allocate and build cacheinfo early during boot. Commit
6539cffa9495 ("cacheinfo: Add arch specific early level initializer")
lets secondary CPUs correct (and reallocate memory) cacheinfo data if needed.
If the early build functionality is not used and cacheinfo does not need correction, memory for cacheinfo is never allocated. x86 does not use the early build functionality. Consequently, during the cacheinfo CPU hotplug callback, last_level_cache_is_valid() attempts to dereference a NULL pointer:
BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000100 #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not present page PGD 0 P4D 0 Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEPMT SMP NOPTI CPU: 0 PID 19 Comm: cpuhp/0 Not tainted 6.4.0-rc2 #1 RIP: 0010: last_level_cache_is_valid+0x95/0xe0a
Allocate memory for cacheinfo during the cacheinfo CPU hotplug callback if not done earlier.
Moreover, before determining the validity of the last-level cache info, ensure that it has been allocated. Simply checking for non-zero cache_leaves() is not sufficient, as some architectures (e.g., Intel processors) have non-zero cache_leaves() before allocation.
Dereferencing NULL cacheinfo can occur in update_per_cpu_data_slice_size(). This function iterates over all online CPUs. However, a CPU may have come online recently, but its cacheinfo may not have been allocated yet.
While here, remove an unnecessary indentation in allocate_cache_info().

crypto: pcrypt - Call crypto layer directly when padata_do_parallel() return -EBUSY
Since commit 8f4f68e788c3 ("crypto: pcrypt - Fix hungtask for PADATA_RESET"), the pcrypt encryption and decryption operations return -EAGAIN when the CPU goes online or offline. In alg_test(), a WARN is generated when pcrypt_aead_decrypt() or pcrypt_aead_encrypt() returns -EAGAIN, the unnecessary panic will occur when panic_on_warn set 1. Fix this issue by calling crypto layer directly without parallelization in that case.(CVE-2024-56690)

net/smc: check return value of sock_recvmsg when draining clc data
When receiving clc msg, the field length in smc_clc_msg_hdr indicates the length of msg should be received from network and the value should not be fully trusted as it is from the network. Once the value of length exceeds the value of buflen in function smc_clc_wait_msg it may run into deadloop when trying to drain the remaining data exceeding buflen.
This patch checks the return value of sock_recvmsg when draining data in case of deadloop in draining.(CVE-2024-57791)

The intent of the verifcation done in check_flush_depedency is to ensure forward progress during memory reclaim, by flagging cases when either a memory reclaim process, or a memory reclaim work item is flushed from a context not marked as memory reclaim safe.
This is correct when flushing, but when called from the cancel(_delayed)_work_sync() paths it is a false positive because work is either already running, or will not be running at all. Therefore cancelling it is safe and we can relax the warning criteria by letting the helper know of the calling context.

ksmbd: fix a missing return value check bug
In the smb2_send_interim_resp(), if ksmbd_alloc_work_struct() fails to allocate a node, it returns a NULL pointer to the in_work pointer. This can lead to an illegal memory write of in_work->response_buf when allocate_interim_rsp_buf() attempts to perform a kzalloc() on it.
To address this issue, incorporating a check for the return value of ksmbd_alloc_work_struct() ensures that the function returns immediately upon allocation failure, thereby preventing the aforementioned illegal memory access.(CVE-2024-57925)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
gve: guard XDP xmit NDO on existence of xdp queues
In GVE, dedicated XDP queues only exist when an XDP program is installed and the interface is up. As such, the NDO XDP XMIT callback should return early if either of these conditions are false.
In the case of no loaded XDP program, priv->num_xdp_queues=0 which can cause a divide-by-zero error, and in the case of interface down, num_xdp_queues remains untouched to persist XDP queue count for the next interface up, but the TX pointer itself would be NULL.
The XDP xmit callback also needs to synchronize with a device transitioning from open to close. This synchronization will happen via the GVE_PRIV_FLAGS_NAPI_ENABLED bit along with a synchronize_net() call, which waits for any RCU critical sections at call-time to complete.(CVE-2024-57932)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
gve: guard XSK operations on the existence of queues
This patch predicates the enabling and disabling of XSK pools on the existence of queues. As it stands, if the interface is down, disabling or enabling XSK pools would result in a crash, as the RX queue pointer would be NULL. XSK pool registration will occur as part of the next interface up.
Similarly, xsk_wakeup needs be guarded against queues disappearing while the function is executing, so a check against the GVE_PRIV_FLAGS_NAPI_ENABLED flag is added to synchronize with the disabling of the bit and the synchronize_net() in gve_turndown.(CVE-2024-57933)

exfat: fix the infinite loop in exfat_readdir()
If the file system is corrupted so that a cluster is linked to itself in the cluster chain, and there is an unused directory entry in the cluster, 'dentry' will not be incremented, causing condition 'dentry < max_dentries' unable to prevent an infinite loop.
This infinite loop causes s_lock not to be released, and other tasks will hang, such as exfat_sync_fs().
This commit stops traversing the cluster chain when there is unused directory entry in the cluster to avoid this infinite loop.(CVE-2024-57940)

netfilter: nf_set_pipapo: fix initial map fill
The initial buffer has to be inited to all-ones, but it must restrict it to the size of the first field, not the total field size.
After each round in the map search step, the result and the fill map are swapped, so if we have a set where f->bsize of the first element is smaller than m->bsize_max, those one-bits are leaked into future rounds result map.
This makes pipapo find an incorrect matching results for sets where first field size is not the largest.
Followup patch adds a test case to nft_concat_range.sh selftest script.
Thanks to Stefano Brivio for pointing out that we need to zero out the remainder explicitly, only correcting memset() argument isn't enough.(CVE-2024-57947)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
gpio: xilinx: Convert gpio_lock to raw spinlock
irq_chip functions may be called in raw spinlock context. Therefore, we must also use a raw spinlock for our own internal locking.
This fixes the following lockdep splat:
